Hamid enjoys traveling, trying local street food, discovering culture, and learning from the people and history of each place he visits. His favorite trips so far include Ghana, Tobago, and Toronto.

Beyond the courtroom and bar leadership, Hamid Saahir is a husband, father, traveler, mentor, sports fan, and community servant whose personal life reflects the same values that guide his public service.
Family first

Hamid’s work is rooted in the people he loves most. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Laila, playing with his children, and creating memories with his family that keep him centered, motivated, and connected to what matters most.
In addition to his legal practice and bar service, Hamid owns Afrikan Authentix with his wife, Laila, where they showcase the wealth and beauty of African fashion by bringing authentic African clothing to America. Their work reflects a shared commitment to culture, heritage, entrepreneurship, and connection across the African diaspora.
Laila and Hamid are proud parents to Nia, Mikal, Farida, and their bonus son, Samir. For Hamid, leadership is not separate from family. The patience, discipline, listening, sacrifice, and joy that family requires are the same qualities he brings to service, community involvement, and the National Bar Association.

Hamid believes that personal connection matters. His interests reflect a love for culture, community, sports, history, family, and brotherhood.
Sports
Hamid is a big Pacers fan and cheers for Indiana’s teams. He enjoys the energy, loyalty, and pride that sports bring to the community.
Community involvement
Hamid values youth mentorship and enjoys meaningful conversations with freedom fighters, organizers, elders, advocates, and people who have committed their lives to justice.
Television
When it is time to relax, Hamid enjoys Law & Order, reruns of Martin, A Different World, and Marvel shows.
Family time
Some of Hamid’s favorite moments are simple ones: spending time with his wife, playing with his children, laughing, resting, and being present with the people he loves.
Sigma brotherhood
Hamid enjoys hanging out with his Sigma brothers and values the bond, service, and fellowship of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Hamid’s life outside of the law reflects the same principles that guide his leadership: listen to people, learn from culture, honor history, build relationships, mentor the next generation, and remain grounded in family and community.
That personal foundation is part of why he believes in putting NBA FIRST — because the Association is strongest when it values the whole person, strengthens real relationships, and creates space for members to serve with authenticity.

Through service in the National Bar Association, Hamid has worked to build relationships, elevate student and member engagement, advance civil rights advocacy, and connect the NBA’s mission to broader opportunities across policy, education, international engagement, and the Black diaspora.
