Hamid Saahir’s path to leadership was not conventional. It was built through perseverance, community work, professional service, and a commitment to opening doors for others.
Hamid Saahir is the founder and principal of Hamid Saahir & Associates, PLLC, where he maintains an active civil litigation practice focused on personal injury, civil rights, premises liability, and related matters across multiple jurisdictions.
But Hamid’s story did not begin with a straight line to law school. He did not attend law school immediately after college. After graduating, he worked different jobs, started a magazine, and worked as a freelance photographer and graphic designer. Those years taught him how to create from limited resources, communicate with people from different backgrounds, and stay committed when the path is difficult.
His academic journey was not easy. He has spoken openly about struggling early in school and being made to believe that becoming a lawyer was beyond reach. That experience shaped his leadership style: practical, grounded, and focused on people who are often overlooked.
In 2013, Hamid moved to Washington, D.C., where he served in national communications and leadership roles with Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. He managed communications strategy, events, branding, social media, member engagement, and corporate relationships. One of his proudest achievements from that period was helping raise more than $300,000 for a monument on Howard University’s campus.
Hamid’s commitment to the National Bar Association has been strengthened through his active participation in affiliate bar leadership and membership. While attending law school in Washington, D.C., he became involved with the Washington Bar Association as a law student, building relationships within one of the NBA’s historic affiliate bars and remaining connected as a current member. Today, his home affiliate bar is the Marion County Bar Association in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he continues to support the mission of advancing Black lawyers, strengthening professional networks, and serving the broader community through leadership, advocacy, and service.

Before law school, Hamid built skills in design, communications, entrepreneurship, education, and community engagement. Those skills now inform his approach to organizational leadership.
National communications leadership
As Deputy Director and Chief Information Officer for Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Hamid worked on branding, digital strategy, membership communications, events, and fundraising.

Hamid served as a legal and organizational resource in Washington, D.C., including work connected to affordable housing, contract review, modernization, and community development.
Evening student and student leader
Hamid earned his Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law while attending as an evening student and teaching during the day. He served as President of the Student Bar Association and President/Law Symposium Chair of the Muslim Law Student Association.

Hamid helped grow NBA engagement among law students and has served as Region VII Deputy Director, on the Legislation Committee, in the International Law Section, and as Vice-Chair of the Law Student Division.

As a current Member-at-Large of the NBA Board of Governors, Hamid has worked on strategic direction, member engagement, civil rights programming, Hill Day, Selma Jubilee, and global advocacy initiatives.
